Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have reportedly captured a suspected foreign terrorist of Moroccan origin believed to be linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) following a failed infiltration attempt by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Borno State.
Security forces subsequently launched exploitation operations along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, leading to the arrest of the suspected foreign operative and the recovery of communication equipment and other intelligence materials.
According to military authorities, forensic analysis of materials recovered after the battle has revealed the involvement of several foreign terrorist facilitators supporting ISWAP’s operations in northeastern Nigeria. Among those identified is a Moroccan national known by the alias Abu Thaiba, whom the military described as a medical doctor embedded within the terrorist network. Officials also identified a Palestinian operative, Abu Ishaq, alleged to serve as ISWAP’s overall trainer, alongside another unidentified Arab facilitator.
The Acting Spokesperson of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the findings reinforce intelligence assessments that ISWAP continues to receive external logistical support, specialist expertise, and transnational terrorist backing despite sustained military offensives across the North-East.
Military sources further disclosed that troops recovered high-frequency handheld radios and other communication devices believed to be critical to the terrorists’ command-and-control structure during follow-up clearance operations. The recovered items are expected to aid ongoing intelligence exploitation and future counterterrorism operations.
